Differences

I've been thinking on this post for awhile and I think it's time to write. Wheter or not it comes together like I've envisioned, who knows.  Oh well...let's try it out.

We've been down here for over three weeks now and I've noticed a number of differences from life in Northern Indiana.  The obvious difference is the weather. We've had some rain since we've been here, but I've seen the sun every day and it has been warmer than 70 degrees at all times. It's pretty easy to get used to.

South Florida is in its own category for uniqueness. There is such a melting pot of nationalities everywhere you go and that's just in our own area, not Miami. Lynn, the school Danny works at, is 25% international students so on his team alone, there are girls from 8 differnt countries. I love talking with them and learning a little bit about their cultures. We have 2 girls from the US, one from Canada, one from England, one from Spain, one from Peru, one from Australia, one from Egypt and one from Belgium who is Filipino. Such fun personalities and life experiences. The gym we attend, Crossfit HardCore, has people from all over as well. It's fun to hear the different accents and figure out where they are from.

The amount of money in South Florida is insane. The school I had club tryouts at last weekend is a private school, where kids can board...it only costs $20,000 to attend. And, it's K-12 so there are a lot of stuents. What!?!? The vending machin here at Clif bars, Coconut Water and other various health foods. Not a Snickers or Twix in sight! I've never seen such a thing! I've also seen more luxury cars than ever before. Maserati's, Lamborghini's and Ferraris are the norm around here. The kids at Lynn drive them!

But, my favorite difference of all is how much freedom we have. Now that Danny is only coaching golf, he has all kinds of free time. His job is flexible, especially now that they're not in season. He's home every night for dinner, he's home on the weekends and we get to hang out as much as we want. I know he does miss basketball, but we don't really miss the amount of time it required. Being able to do whatever we want when we want has become an enjoyed luxury for us.

I'm sure there are many more that I could list if I took the time. We'll leave at this for now.

Very neat to hear! I bet it is so much fun getting to interact with so many cultures. And I am all for the sun shining every day. :) I am glad you all are settling in. We talked about you this week. :)

That's so great that Danny is home more and you two get to spend lots of time together! Did you have to get a whole new wardrobe to accomodate the weather differences? :) Miss you guys!
