"Some of the most Christ-like people I know don't even have a relationship with him... somethings not right there."
The above was the Facebook status a couple weeks ago of a good friend of ours. Danny and I both saw it but failed to talk about it until a few days later. During the days in between, we were both thinking separately about how true of a statement that was and how much it rings true with the daily interactions we have here in Florida. One night last week, we were on the way home from dinner with some friends of mine who specifically drove over from Ft. Myers to visit us and our new CF gym when this conversation came up. (It was so nice to spend time with people from home and we were both floored that they'd taken the time to drive over 2.5 hours to visit us just for a few hours then have to drive the 2.5 hours back to her dad's place.) The more we talked, the more we realized how many people we know that aren't believers, but act more like they are than those that do believe. (Did that even make sense?) It saddened us to think about all the people who claim to know Christ but act dishonestly, cheat to get ahead at everything, lack integrity and many other things. Yes, we are all sinners and redeemed by God's grace if we just ask, but that doesn't mean life is a free for all and we can act and repent later. We are called as believers to follow Christ and life as Christ-like as we can. We are to be in the world, but not of the world.
Our conversation really made both of us reflect on how we act and what people will see. We both strive to set Christ-like examples and be witneses in our daily lives. We are surrounded by people from all walks of lfe and we are really learning to love them for who they are now and pray for who they can become. We may not always agree with their life choices or decisions, but we shouldn't stop loving them. With the power of God, anything is possible so we are just wanting to do our part. We'll never really know the way we've impacted people, but we can sure strive to do our best at being Christ like.
